Alan, a Slimming World consultant, runs classes at The City Life Church on Hylton Road, on Mondays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm . Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will meet tomorrow at 7.30pm. James Grieg will give a talk on the Leprosy Mission.

Saint Gabriel’s Church will hold a Coffee Morning on Saturday, September 12, from 10.30am-noon in aid of Shepherds Dene Retreat House.Coffee and scone will be £1 and there will also be a cake stall and raffle.

Praise 4 is a new service of worship at the new time of 4pm. Praise 4 will be held on the last Sunday of the month at St Nicholas Church, starting on September 27. This new service aims to provide space to spend time in God’s presence through songs, hymns, prayer ministry and testimonies. Everyone is welcome from the very youngest to the young at heart.

Arthritis Care Group Sunderland will meet tomorrow from 6pm-8pm in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. Specialist rheumatology nurse Louise West will be guest speaker. A charity jumble sale will take place in the grounds of The Chesters Pub, Chester Road, on Saturday September 19, at 9am. Organised for The Chesters Charity group,proceeds will go to a throat cancer charity. If you have any good quality items such as books, toys, bric-a-brac, they would be very welcome. As part of The Heritage Open Days St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Wilson Street, will be open on Saturday, September 12, from 10am-4pm. This beautiful church will display antique vestments and church artefacts and will hold a summer fair at 11am.

Sunderland Floral Art Club will meet on Tuesday, September 15, at 2.15pm in The Studio of The Royalty Theatre. Demonstrator will be Rebecca Hough her demonstration It’s A Vibrant Life. Visitors welcome, pay £4.

Once again St Nicholas Church is participating in The Heritage Open Days week end when it is hoped people will visit the church, especially to view the magnificent stained glass windows. The church will be open Friday, September 11, from 2pm-4pm and Saturday, September 12, from 10am-3pm.

Unwanted gift bags would be welcomed at St Gabriel’s Church for future tombola stalls in aid of church funds. It doesn’t matter what size they are they will be very useful. They can be handed to June Talbot or the bookstall. Many thanks to those who have already handed in bags.

Open Arms coffee mornings are a new monthly venture at St Nicholas Church aimed to be a support network for care givers, with an opportunity to enjoy an informal chat as well as spending time with people who share, understand and appreciate the difficulties of living with the pressure of life as a care giver, take time out to relax and share the highs and lows, practical knowledge and advice. Join them at The Care Givers Coffee Mornings for just £1 to be held in TheAidan Room at Haver Hall, St Nicholas Church on the first Wednesday of the month from 10.30am- noon. First one tomorrow.

Barnes Pallion and Millfield Residents’ Association meeting takes place tonight at 7pm in St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street.

Clouds Harp Quartet will perform at Sunderland Minster on Friday at 8pm. Sunderland Cardiac Support Group monthly meeting will be held in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital, on Thursday, September 10, at 6.45pm. Guest will be Phil Curtis with an illustrated talk on All Things Sunderland.

A meeting of Eden Vale Residents’ Association will take place on Tuesday, Septmber 8, in Richard Avenue Primary School from 6.30pm-8pm. Discussions about area concerns will be held.
