A BUSINESS boss has backed a drive to highlight Britain’s manufacturing industry.
Business Secretary Vince Cable’s Made by Britain project has challenged MPs to seek out the best examples of British design and ingenuity.
Geoff Turnbull, chairman of GT Group, Peterlee, said: “We are not, as seems to be a commonly held belief, turning into a nation of shopkeepers, financial institutions and service providers.
“This country is still the sixth or seventh biggest manufacturing nation in the world.
“Therefore, it is vital the message is shouted loud and clear that manufacturing is alive and kicking, and has a key role to play in leading the economic recovery.”
