WEARSIDE MP Bridget Phillipson has given birth to her first child.
The Houghton and Sunderland South MP, who married husband Lawrence in 2009, gave birth to a girl yesterday.
The couple, who live in Hetton, are still to choose a name.
In a brief message from hospital, Ms Phillipson said: “Our lovely baby girl arrived – 7lb 6oz. No name as yet. We’re both doing well and incredibly happy.”
The former women’s refuge manager, 27, had been carrying out her duties as an MP until just days before the birth – including attending Houghton Feast.
Ms Phillipson, daughter of Wearside Women in Need director Claire Phillipson, became one of the country’s youngest MPs in the May 2010 General Election.
The Oxford graduate and ex-St Robert of Newminister School pupil was appointed to the influential Home Affairs Select Committee after being elected.
