THE man who lifted a lifetime achievement award – for 50 years’ loyal service in the world of theatre – has looked back on a night to remember.
Peter Reynolds was the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at last year’s Sunderland Echo Excellence Awards 2014, held in association with weekly entertainments guide, WOW 24/7.
The pensioner, from Barnes, has been an active member of The Royalty Theatre for more than 50 years, helping to keep Sunderland’s oldest community theatre alive.
Not only has he served on the executive committee, as chairman and as a trustee, he also builds sets, directs productions and even stocks the bar.
Judges praised him for his hands-on approach in fostering amateur dramatic talent in the city.
Looking back on his success, Peter said: “I was delighted to win. It was an exciting night and a very pleasant night.”
He described his award as “unexpected” and added: “I would certainly encourage other people to enter this year’s competition.”
We are now searching for entrants for this year’s contest and we are hoping to make it every bit as successful as our inaugural event.
There is plenty of time to put forward your favourites as the deadline for entries is February 5, next year.
After that, the judges will meet to draw up a shortlist from all the contenders.
Then, we will be revealing the winners on February 26 in a glittering finale at The Best Western Roker Hotel.
This is only the second time we have held the awards and we want to build on the success of last year’s great inaugural competition.
That’s where you come in. We want you to nominate you favourites in each of the categories that are listed on this page. We want to find the successors to those fantastic winners from last year’s event and to do that we need your nominations.
So whether you are a clubber, pubber, shopper, theatre goer, or diner, we want you to get involved.
Send in your entries and put your favourites in the running.
And if there’s more than one cause that you love, put them all in the running and make the judges job really hard.
