Award is misguided

Once again the council has lost the plot.

The Freedom of the City is for individuals or groups ‘who have made outstanding contributions to the wellbeing and community spirit of the city’.

How does a Nissan employee, who lives north of the Tyne, drives to work, screws the same nuts on a car for 12 hours, drives home as fast as he can, goes to every NUFC home game, qualify?

There are a lot more deserving people who justify such an award.

The volunteers of the RNLI, who risk their own lives every time they go out of Sunderland Harbour, are just one of many more deserving examples.

We all know the Government has assured Nissan that if any tariffs are applied after Brexit, they will cover it.

Millions of taxpayers’ money in the form of grants has gone into this plant, clearly this is a big mistake.
