DELAYS were caused on the A19 as rush hour approached after a car smashed into a lamppost.
The 59-year-old man driving the black Audi appears to have escaped uninjured in the collision, which happened close to Easington Services on the southbound carriageway at around 3pm today.
Firefighters and a doctor called to the scene helped him get out of his car safely, but he was able to walk away from the badly-damaged vehicle without a spinal board or having to be cut free.
However, he was taken to hospital for a check up.
One lane of the road was closed while the scene was cleared.
