Attempted robbery in Shotton Colliery alleyway

A MAN was attacked by would-be robbers as he headed to work.

The attack happened as the 30-year-old victim, who lives nearby, was heading down an alleyway at the side of Milton Grove in Shotton Colliery.

He was attacked by two men, with one grabbing him from behind and the other approaching him from the front, demanding his mobile phone and cash.

The victim managed to break free and struck out at the man in front, before he was pushed to the ground and kicked by both of them to his head and body.

Police received a number of injuries during the attack including bruising to the ribs, but fortunately was not seriously hurt.

His attackers fled the scene in the direction of Dene Terrace when a passer-by approached.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in this area at the time to come forward.

They are keen to speak with anyone who may know the identity of either attacker.

The first is described as 5ft 5in tall, with a broad Irish accent and was wearing a West Ham United football scarf while the second is described as 6ft tall and wore camouflage jacket.

The attack happened at 7.30am on Saturday, October 11.
