'Atmosphere was brilliant' - 9 things you said about Sunderland Airshow's opening night

Due to grey and rainy weather, some displays such as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight couldn’t take off from its base, while the Twister Aerobatics Team and Fireflies Otto had to cancel shortly before they were due to take off.

But thousands of visitors still got to see the might of the RAF Typhoon as well as the always crowd-pleasing Red Arrows.

Back on the ground there musical entertainment from local acts including Olivia Glover, Beth Macari and Jennison, as well as Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood and an Indian dance extravaganza.
