Arson attack on car in Sunderland street

POLICE are investigating a suspected arson attack on a car in a Sunderland street.

Fire officers from Sunderland Central station were called out to North View, in Castletown, at 11.20pm on Monday.

They extinguished a fire which had engulfed a Ford Ka vehicle, which was destroyed in the blaze.

Two fire crews arrived at the scene to put out the fire.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “At 11.38pm on Monday, April 13, police received a report from the fire service that a car was on fire in North View, Sunderland.

“Officers attended and inquiries are currently underway to establish how the car caught fire.

“Anyone who may have been in the area and has information to help is asked to contact police quoting reference number 233913/04/15.”
