Arsenal v Sunderland set to be rearranged after Gunners reach FA Cup semi-finals

Sunderland's trip to Arsenal next month will be rearranged after the Gunners made it through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Arsenal beat non-league Lincoln City 5-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday teatime to set up a semi-final on the weekend of April 22 - the same weekend they were due to face David Moyes' Sunderland side in the Premier League.

The league game will now be rearranged, with Sunderland's game away to relegation rivals Middlesbrough also still to be rearranged.

Sunderland only have two games in March, last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City and this Saturday's visit of Burnley to the Stadium of Light.

April is set to be a busy month for the Black Cats with Sunderland playing Watford, Leicester City, Manchester United, West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth with the Boro and Arsenal games to be rearranged.

Sunderland had a free weekend after the Boro game was rescheduled due to the Teessiders' quarter-final defeat to Manchester City.

To help maintain fitness levels, David Moyes scheduled a behind-closed-doors friendly with non-league neighbours Gateshead at the Academy of Light for the first team squad at the end of last week.

Sunderland fielded a strong side minus Jermain Defoe, Seb Larsson and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from the players that faced Man City last weekend.

The Black Cats ran out 3-2 winners against the National League outfit.

Sunderland remain six points from safety at the foot of the Premier League ahead of the Burnley game.
