A MAN has been arrested after a shop worker was threatened at knifepoint for a handful of cigarettes.

A 40-year-old man was yesterday arrested on suspicion of burglary, after the Premier Convenience Store, in Hylton Road, was targeted on Monday morning.

It is alleged that a members of staff caught a man stealing cigarettes in an upstairs room of the shop.

The arrested man is being quizzed by police.
