THE best in business across Wearside, South Tyneside and East Durham will be honoured next week, with the presentation of the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards 2012.

We pride ourselves that everyone has a great night in an evening of celebration that has become a fixture in the business calendar.

A big part of that is our choice of speaker. This year, The Apprentice’s Katie Hopkins will be entertaining the audience with tales of her TV experiences.

And again, our speaker will be sponsored by city accountants TTR Barnes.

For nearly 70 years, Sunderland’s largest independent firm of accountants as been guiding local businesses to success.

It is that experience that qualifies TTR Barnes to once again help judge this year’s awards.

Experts from TTR have also been using this experience to help Sunderland businesses succeed in these difficult economic times.

TTR Barnes director Allan Russell said the Portfolio awards played a valuable role by highlighting success in tough times.

“We are delighted to once again sponsor the speaker’s spot at this year’s Portfolio awards,” he said.

“These awards continue to celebrate the resilience of the Sunderland economy which has the ability to fight back against the difficulties of current times, and respond positively to changes on a national scale.

“The awards prove that there are lots of vibrant and exciting new and existing businesses out there who are starting up and expanding despite what is happening in the global economy.”

TTR Barnes, based in Grange Terrace, Sunderland, now employs more than 35 staff and has a strong commitment to Wearside’s business community.

As well as continuing to provide top-quality accounting services, TTR Barnes is expert in corporate work.

Its team continues to oversee an increasing number of business sales, management buy-outs and expansions.

However, at the heart of TTR Barnes’ business is the army of successful firms across the city who rely on the company to keep their accounts, taxation and business affairs in order.
