Appeal for witnesses after arson at Sunderland house

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an arson attack at a house in Sunderland.

The blaze at the property in Emma Court, Hendon, happened at about 10pm last night.

The fire service was called and forced entry to the property.

Two appliances from Sunderland Central station attended and extinguished the fire, which started in the kitchen, destroyed a washing machine, and caused smoke damage to the ground floor.

Firefighters spent about an hour putting out the blaze.

No one was injured.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, and police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact them.

Officers have been carrying out inquiries in the area.
