Police are appealing for help after a suspected arson attack at a house in Sunderland.
A crew from Sunderland Central Fire Station was called to Ancona Street in Pallion just before 7pm on Saturday.
Firefighter Gordon Chalk said: “We were called at about twenty to seven on Saturday night.
“The house was all locked up but there was a window with a little gap and smoke coming out.
“We knocked on the door but there was no answer so we smashed the door in and a load of smoke came out.
“There was nobody in the building and it was well alight.

“We used breathing apparatus to get inside and then positive pressure ventilation to clear the smoke.”

Any witnesses should ring Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 1069 250616 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
