THE Jubilee Bank Holiday has delayed some bin collections in the Chester-le-Street areas.
Durham County Council has apologised for the disruption as it works to catch up with the backlog.
A reduced number of crews was available on Tuesday, and many scheduled collections were not carried out.
The authority hoped to carry out some additional collections today.
Oliver Sherratt, head of direct services, said: “The additional bank holiday presented us with a very unusual situation which has caused some disruption to our collections.
“We would like to apologise for this and reassure residents that we are making every effort to ensure that any missed bins have been collected by the end of the weekend.”
