He is stepping down for family reasons and would dearly like to take all three points from local rivals Ashbrooke Belford House.

Victory would confirm West End as TWR Bifolds Wearside League runners-up to champions Stockton Town, but if Ashbrooke win or force a draw, then Redcar Athletic will end in second place.

It’s a second chance for Nelson’s team, who lost the original fixture 6-2. The game was ordered by the League Management Committee to be replayed because Ashbrooke fielded an ineligible player.

“I’m looking to go out on a high and with a full-strength squad available, confident we can give them a good game although following the initial result, we’ll certainly not be complacent,” said Nelson.

The game – which brings the curtain down on the season – kicks off at Ford Quarry at 7.30pm.
