In the 1960s a wave of new energetic rock and roll swept the charts. On the crest of this wave was The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Animals.

Hailing from Tyneside, they were the North East’s offering to this new sound with their own brand of rhythm and blues.

They were the second British band to top the American charts after The Beatles with the now multi-million selling and legendary anthem, House of the Rising Sun.

The band subsequently had success with We Gotta Get Out Of This Place and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, and achieved more than twenty global Top Ten hit records, many of which gained the Number One slot in various parts of the world.

In Britain alone, the band had twelve chart entries and were the first British band to tour Poland and Japan.

The band today still includes founder member John Steel and also Micky Gallagher from the original band, who will join newer members Danny Handley and Roberto Ruiz, on stage at The Point, in Holmeside, on Saturday.
