HLA Services last won a Portfolio title six years ago, and referred to the honour on the bottom of its emails for years.

Director Paul Smith said: “We only took it off recently and we will have to put this one on now. It is amazing to win.”

The firm was set up in 2003, and offers services, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and water hygiene.

It has expanded its services, and has posted the best financial results in its 13-year history.

It has £50,000 in new technology and won more than £1m-worth of contracts outside the region.

The company’s growth has seen it hit the £11m turnover mark for the first time. It has also created 30 jobs over the last 18 months, taking staff numbers to 120 across its bases in Boldon, Middlesbrough and Seaham.

Paul praised the “fantastic team” at all levels, including many who had been there for all 13 years of the company. With him were director Neil Henry and accounts director Wendy Duffy, who agreed the loyal team deserved praise for the success.

The nomination for HLA Services came from a business which has HLA as a client, and said: “We’re really proud to name HLA Services as one of our clients, and they have been paramount to our own business growth.”
