The Silksworth athlete has been selected for the five-strong British team and looks to improve on her previous performance of 18th in the last championship in Copenhagen.

Team Leader Spencer Duval said: “There is some great British history in these championships with Paula Radcliffe and Liz McColgan winning at previous editions.

“It is a great opportunity for the team to contest a major championship on home soil and it will be a fantastic opportunity for some of the athletes and those who are preparing for the Virgin Money London Marathon (Olympic Trials event) in April.”

Dixon is one of only two British women athletes that have the Olympic qualifying time and a top-two finish against her rivals in London could secure her selection.

Mo Farah will headline the British men’s team as he makes his debut at the championships.
