The Black Cats could only draw 2-2 to throw away another golden chance to claw themselves out of trouble at the bottom of the Championship.

Camp was at fault for Reading's opener, failing to hold a weak Mo Barrow's effort, then bringing down Jon Dadi Bodvarsson as he scrambled for the rebound, giving away a penalty that Liam Kelly converted.

Then, with Sunderland 2-1 ahead, Camp was unable to stop Yann Kermorgant heading in the equaliser.

The result leaves Sunderland six points from safety with just three games left and fans took to Twitter after the game to comment, with the goalkeeper situation a key discussion point. Here's a selection of comments:

@bestboomer: if we had kept Mannone I think we would have been safe. Selling Pickford might have been understandable, but not Mannone. The most idiotic decision in a sea of idiotic decisions by Short and Bain

@brooksie64: Our goalkeeper has all the skill of a dropped pie #SAFC

@northwestmackem: my chocolate teapot sueing for libel after being compared to Lee Camp #safc

@Luke_hall1125: Terrible terrible season. Made even worse by the fact if we had even 1 capable goalkeeper we would be safe already. #safc

@Joeyo1990: Would like to nominate my nan for the position of #safc goalkeeper. She's 88 and needs a stair lift to get upstairs but I still think the would be a better signing.....

@CRiedlinger77: How many points has Lee Camp single-handedly cost us this season? I use the term 'single-handedly' very loosely, of course. The flipper's got no flippen hands. #SAFC

@irobarmstrong: Every time we drop points due to a goalkeeping error I can picture Bain's smug face bragging about how efficient Mannone's sale was. #SAFC

@slightly76: Sunderland there ending the game with a striker in right midfield, a central defender at left back, and a gypsy traveller's nightmarish enchanted puppet in goal. #safc

@teamsmite: Seriously man just an average goalkeeper would do #safc

@PlannerMarj: Again, played quite decent generally, but can’t defend properly and we have what appears to be a homeless tramp in goal. Point not enough. gutted. #safc
