Age UK Sunderland bosses delighted with Best of Wearside nomination
Age UK Sunderland is renowned for the way in which it improves the quality of life for the older generation on Wearside and now its efforts have been recognised with a nomination for the Community Group of the Year Award.
Alan Patchett, director of Age UK Sunderland, was delighted the hard work of staff and volunteers had been acknowledged.

Hide AdHe said: “I am thrilled. It is very nice that someone has taken the time to nominate us.
“It is really nice to be recognised.
“We do a tremendous amount of work with older people in the city and never expect any recognition, so it is great that the work of the staff and volunteers as been appreciated.”
He added: “We are a local charity which works to deliver numerous services including our two main services- the Living Well Link Service and the Essence Service.
“Social isolation is one of our main areas and to tackle that we have services including our Befriending Service and 34 lunch clubs.

Hide Ad“To win the award would be a tremendous boost for 104 staff and our 340 volunteers, as a huge amount of what we do is delivered by volunteers who selflessly give up their time.”
A member of the public who put Age UK forward for the nomination said: “Age UK Sunderland aims to promote the well-being of all older people throughout the City of Sunderland, improve their quality of life and help them maintain independence.
“They are the largest independent charity, working and campaigning on issues affecting older people.
“Age UK Sunderland are a fantastic community group.”
Now comes the search for this year’s champions.
The Best of Wearside Awards 2016 are under way and sponsors are Calsonic Kansei, Gentoo, Vantec, Station Taxis, TWR, and Sunderland Live.
