After a snowy Valentine's Day what does this week's weather have in store?

It's been a bitterly cold Valentine's Day, with sleet and snow affecting many parts of the North East.

And the bad news is that there’s no let-up in sight, with a yellow Met Office weather warning remaining in place for tomorrow.

Sleet and snow showers are expected to continue overnight into Monday, with accumulations of up to 2cm likely at low levels, and 2-5cm over hills.

Ice will be an additional hazard overnight, particularly after showers.

Drivers are warned of the potential for difficult travelling conditions.

The warning lasts until until midday on Monday, with temperatures fall as low as -1°C.

Tomorrow will see brisk north easterly winds bringing more sleet and snow showers to all parts of the region, heavy in places - but with some bright or sunny intervals too.

Tuesday looks set to be dry, bright and cold, but rain and hill snow will edge slowly east on Wednesday.
