Johnson, 29, was given a six-year term in March last year after being convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.

The former Manchester City and Sunderland winger had admitted kissing the girl, but denied any further sexual activity.

His parents are listed as secretary and director of Adam Johnson Promotions on company records.

Lawyers representing HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) had asked for the company to be wound up, because £65,000 tax was owed, at a hearing in the Bankruptcy & Companies Court in London on Monday.

Registrar Nicholas Briggs, a specialist judge, granted their application.

The company was not represented at the hearing and no one opposed HMRC's application.
