Johnson, who has been sacked by Sunderland AFC, denies two counts of sexual activity with a child.

The England international has already admitted one count of sexual activity with a child and another of meeting a child following sexual grooming.

Today, the jury heard more details about Johnson texting girlfriend Stacey Flounders at the same time that he was sending flirty messages to the girl following their second meeting.

Johnson called his girlfriend "paranoid" because she thought he was talking to other women - which he has already revealed in evidence he was doing.

Kate Blackwell QC, prosecuting, put it to him: "You were determined to give her the impression that her fears were unfounded, and the very thing that she thought was happening was taking place at that moment."

Miss Blackwell also claimed that the sportsman "was used to getting everything he wanted" as a celebrity - and that he wanted the girl.

He said he didn't get everything he desired, and then added "yeah" with regards to wanting his alleged victim.

Completing his evidence, Johnson choked back tears in the dock after telling the court how he felt about what he had done.

He said: "Absolutely awful. What I did to everyone, but mainly to [the girl]."

The case continues.
