Accelerant used in double car arson attack

TWO cars parked in the same street were destroyed when they were set alight by an arsonist.

Firefighters were first called to the rear of Garron Street, off Princess Road in Seaham, just after 11pm on Sunday after a Fiat Punto was found on fire.

Fifteen minutes later, another crew was sent to the same lane, near to Park Street, after a VW Passat was reported to be ablaze.

The crews used hose reels and a jet to put out the fires.

Investigations have established an accelerant was used to start the fires, with detectives linking the two attacks because the vehicles were parked just hundreds of yards away from each other.

House-to-house inquiries have been carried out as part of the probe.
