John McGuinness, executive principal at the Pennywell school, said: “The Academy recognised those students whose focus and dedication had resulted in exceptional progress this year and those individuals who had shown an outstanding commitment to learn.

“Our first annual awards ceremony was the perfect occasion to recognise the individual achievements of many pupils and to celebrate these as a community.

“Each young person that won an award will retain their respective title as a ‘learning champion’ for the next academic year.”

The event was attended by hundreds of proud parents and awards were presented across 12 subjects and four year groups.

Julie Kelly, chairman of governors at Academy 360, said: “These awards were a fitting tribute at the end of a busy school year and recognition of our young people who have gone that extra mile to make a real difference.”

Josh Rooney, Year 9, who won a Chairman of Governor’s Award for outstanding commitment to learn across the curriculum, said: “I felt very proud and happy to receive the school governors’ prize. I will enjoy using my Kindle prize as it will help me with my school work. It was a great evening that I loved being part of and I hope I am nominated again next year.”
