A1M lorry death man identified

POLICE have today identified a man who died when he was hit by a lorry on the A1M on Monday night.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kenneth Laidlaw, from Stanley, died after he was struck in the north-bound carriageway, near to junction 61 at Bowburn services, around 11.45pm.

He suffered serious injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The lorry driver, a 44-year-old man from Consett, was shocked but unhurt.

Anyone who saw a man walking on the sliproad or carriageway near the services at the time is asked to contact the Durham Police Collision Investigation Unit on 375 2159 or the non-emergency number 101.
