Sunderland drivers will benefit from an improved road surface on the northbound A19 carriageway in Sunderland when work starts on Wednesday.
The road will be closed between the A183 Chester Road Interchange and the A1231 Hylton Grange Interchange overnight between 8pm and 6am for eight days.
The work was due to take place on August 23 but was rescheduled.
Highways England project manager Kyle Maylard said: “We are carrying out this vital resurfacing work overnight to minimise the disruption for drivers.”
Diversions will be in place via the A183, A182 and A1231 to rejoin the A19 at the Hylton Grange Interchange.
