FIREFIGHTERS had to tear apart a garage to free a trapped cat whose curiosity almost got the better of him.
Two crews with a total of 10 firefighters from Millfield and Hebburn fire stations were dispatched to Waldron Square, Grangetown, Sunderland, at 3.05pm yesterday after the cat became stuck in the cavity between two garages.
The crews used large and small hammers, chisels and a small grinder with a cutting blade to make a hole in the wall to access the cat, which was caught inbetween double brick concrete walls in the cul-de-sac.
The firefighters were still unable to rescue the stricken moggy, due to the thickness of the wall, and resorted to using heavy equipment, including a saw and a large grinder, from the special rescue tender to break through the thick wall.
The cat was then taken to a vet by the RSPCA as a precaution suffering from possible shock.
