BORO busker James Arthur will bring a touch of X Factor magic to Sunderland’s pop extravaganza.
The winner of last year’s competition is the latest chart-topper to join the line-up of North East Live which will bring pop to the Stadium of Light pitch this summer.
The event, which also includes JLS, The Wanted, Rita Ora, Lawson, Conor Maynard, Little Mix, Stooshe, Union J and Amelia Lily, is set to be the biggest pop show staged in the region so far.
James, whose debut single, Impossible, hit number 1 in December, said: “I’m really looking forward to North East Live, playing to such a big home crowd will be amazing.”
He is the latest confirmed act to bring a local flavour to the spectacle. Little Mix, whose members Jade and Perrie are from South Shields, and fellow Teessider Amelia Lily have already been lined up to perform.
In its first week of release, James’ debut single went on to sell more than a million copies. It has also become the fastest-selling X Factor winner’s single so far, reaching 255,000 downloads within 48 hours and more than 490,000 by the end of its first week on sale.
Tickets for the family-friendly five-hour concert, which takes place on June 22, went on general sale at 9am yesterday with queues forming outside Black Cat House from 4.30am.
Schoolgirl Sophie Fenwick, 15, was the first concert-goer to get her hands on tickets.
“I’m really excited,” said the Red House Academy pupil, who is looking forward to seeing Union J and Conor Maynard perform.
She added: “I went to see Take That which was fun and exciting.”
The mammoth pop gig will cap off a music of summer at the home of the Black Cats with Bon Jovi playing on June 13 and Rihanna on June 20.
