The radio station is on the hunt for sartorially elegant Wearsiders for its annual celebration of Mackem style.

Now in its second year, the Sun FM Style awards are aimed at celebrating all that’s great about Sunderland sophistication from the Most Stylish Home Award to the Wear Rear Award.

Nominations are already flooding in for the awards which will take place at the Tavistock Roker Hotel on Friday, February 22.

A host of celebrities will be on hand to dish out the trophies including Ollie and Cheska from hit E4 show Made in Chelsea; rapper and former So Solid Crew member Romeo and Sunderland glamour model Ellis Cooper, with DJ Danny Rampling providing the tunes at an after-show party.

Kate Stewart, sponsorship and promotions manager at the station, said: “Last year’s event proved so successful that people still talk about it now.

“It’s a unique event in the city, and in fact the North East, as it’s the one awards show which celebrates how many stylish people and businesses there are right on our doorstep.”

She added: “Everyone knows someone who has some form of style, whether it be a yummy mummy or a restaurant.”

As well as celebrating Wearside businesses which dare to be different, the awards also recognise Mackems who make the effort to stand out from the crowd.

Hundreds of nominations have already flooded in, but the station is looking for as many people as possible to enter the 21 categories.

Sun FM broadcast journalist Katie McClements said: “It’s something we really look forward to at the station. It’s a night of glitz and glamour and it’s great to see everyone making a real effort to get dressed up for the evening.”

Last year’s awards attracted stars from Hollyoaks, Desperate Housewives and Geordie Shore with winners including East Herrington’s The Lake Poets in the Unsigned Star category; Olympian Tony Jeffries as Most Stylish Sporting Star and Independent in The After Dark Award.

The event will be presented by Breakfast Show presenter Simon Grundy.

Nominations can be received online until January 25 after which listeners can vote for their favourite on the short-list.

•Tickets, priced £35 which includes a three-course meal and access to the after-show party, will go on sale in the coming weeks.
