THREE dedicated gardeners have been honoured for their hard work.
Pensioners Billy Tiltman, Walter Alderson and Jack Brown have clocked up the years at Tunstall allotments.
Three roads at the site have been named after the trio, Billy’s Lane, Walter’s Walk and Jack’s Ride.
David Banks, secretary of the allotment association, said: “Many of the gardeners have been on the site for over 50 years and recently awards were given to some of our longest-serving members, Billy Tiltman, Walter Alderson and Jack Brown.
“Between them they have over 200 years of experience and memories of the site.
“Billy has been there for over 80 years, first being brought there by his grandfather on the crossbar of his bike when he was a two-year-old.
“Walter has been there 67 years and Jack over 50 years, Jack was also chairman of the committee for many years.
Mr Banks said the allotment has developed over the years and is an important local amenity.
“Tunstall allotments has been a part of the Tunstall and Silksworth scenery since the early 1900s,” he added.
“In 2010, the allotments association was formed and now there are over 250 members.”
