Metro passengers in Sunderland were hit by disruption this morning following the closure of part of the line.
The service between South Hylton and Sunderland was suspended, initially until 8.30am, because of what Metro called "essential maintenance" being carried out by Network Rail.
A replacement taxi service was put in place, but a further update from Metro advised that the suspension would continue until 9.30am.
Another update at 9.45am from Metro confirmed that the suspension was lasting longer than thought, with no end time given. Two replacement buses were ordered.
Trains between Sunderland and Newcastle had been operating, albeit with some minor delays.
Shortly after 11.30am, Metro tweeted to say that the service had resumed.
