WHAT’S red, white and set to be a night to remember? The city’s first Fire and Ice ball, that’s what.

Tomorrow night Sunderland Minster will be transformed into a feast for the ears.

Stacie Stewart, Sunderland chef and owner of Beehive Bakery.

Two hundred guest are expected to pack the city landmark to hear DJ sets from 90s house group K Class, who are behind club hits Rhythm is a Mystery and Let Me Show You The Way; MOD enthusiast and TV chef Stacie Stewart; The Futureheads’ Barry Hyde; Matt and Nick Peverell, who are fresh from a season in Ibiza; Chris Bungoni and Andrew Atkins from Lola’s bar.

Simon Grundy from Sun FM, the station which is staging the event with Lola’s, said: “We wanted to put on a dance event because Sunderland doesn’t have that many nightclubs anymore, plus we’ve always wanted to do an event at the Minster after seeing how successful The Futureheads gig was there.

“The Minster have set a precedent really as there are not many religious buildings used in that way, but they are really open to ideas.”

The church will be decked out in red and white for the event and guests are asked to wear red and white also, in keeping with the fire and ice theme. Though the event is called a ball, it’s far from a stuffy affair.

Simon said: “It’s definitely not a tuxedo, sit-down meal ball, this is a fun, dance event. But it’s not just dance music, we have Stacie Djing who’ll be playing tracks from the 60s.

“It’s targeted at people who aren’t necessarily in their teens and 20s but still like a good night out. We’ll have a cocktail bar and champagne bar and we’re asking people to dress cool and contemporary with a hint of red and white.”

Eighty per cent of tickets, priced £20 each, have already been sold but we’re giving four people the chance to go for free before the event sells out.

We have two pairs of tickets to give away to the Fire and Ice Ball, which takes place from 7pm to 1am.

To be in with a chance of winning answer this question: what is the colour scheme of the ball?

Send your answer with your contact details to by 11am tomorrow. You must be available to collect your tickets before 5pm at the Echo offices in Pennywell.
