SUNDERLAND City Council is encouraging everyone in Sunderland to support local businesses by spending their time and money in the city’s shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and entertainment spaces.
With over 800 businesses in Sunderland city centre alone, with a choice of high-street names, independent fashion and jewellery shops, electrical stores, home and gift shops, hair and beauty salons… there’s even a shop that specialises in dolls houses!
And whilst you’re in the city centre you can enjoy time with friends and family at the cinema or theatre, try your hand at some tenpin bowling, visit a museum or art galleries or simply enjoy a coffee or a few drinks - the list goes on.
Treat yourself to a warming hot chocolate or cool down with a refreshing beverage at one of the many cafes or bars. And with a variety of cuisines including authentic Thai, classic Italian or traditional British on offer, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste and budget.
If you’re looking for a last minute gift to remind a friend or loved one of home, pop into Sunderland Tourist Information Centre, now located inside the City Library and Arts Centre on Fawcett Street. It’s open right up to Christmas Eve and you’ll find all kinds of Sunderland art, memorabilia and souvenirs including children’s gifts and paintings of iconic Sunderland landmarks.
Sunderland city centre is compact enough to walk around and easy to get to by public transport, plus there’s a choice of secure, reasonably priced car parks. Sunderland’s retail staff are renowned for their friendliness and many are able to offer a level of service and friendliness that you won’t get elsewhere, some have the awards to prove it!
So, for shopping, Christmas catch ups with old friends, drinks or a meal – shop in Sunderland and support your city and its businesses.
