A SUNDERLAND band will tonight discover if they have scooped one of the most prestigious awards in music.
Field Music, set up by Wearside brothers David and Pete Brewis, are nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their fourth album, Plumb.
The progressive pop group expressed shock when it was announced in September that they had made the shortlist, saying: “We’re a few albums in now and we were fairly convinced our chances of ever making the Mercury shortlist were minimal to nil, so this is a really nice surprise.”
Bookmakers have them at an outside bet 16/1 to take home the honour, with rockers Alt-J at evens and Sheffield singer-songwriter Richard Hawley at 4/1.
The ceremony takes place a the Roundhouse, in Camden.
The full awards show – presented by Sunderland-born Lauren Laverne – will be on Channel Four tomorrow at 11.35pm.
