Sunderland restaurant proves success with second eatery – housed in a sports club

OWNERS of a successful restaurant in Sunderland city centre are hoping diners will also fall in love with its second site.

Amore2 has opened its doors in Ashbrooke Sports Club in a spin-off from its original Italian restaurant in Tavistock Place.

Despite the leisure industry being hard hit by the current financial climate, Amore owner Kam Chera says he’s proud to have seen the business go from strength to strength.

When Kam was approached by Ashbrooke Sports Club to open a chain in their restaurant area, formerly known as The View, he jumped at the chance.

The 33-year-old from Washington said: “We’d built up a loyal clientèle on the original site but have suffered a hit with the car park next door closing as it’s really difficult for people to park in the city centre.

“We had been looking to expand anyway and when the Ashbrooke offer came about it seemed perfect. We haven’t really advertised or marketed the new restaurant much yet but we’ve hit the ground running and have had some great feedback.”

The menu will feature the same dishes as those served at the original Amore.
