A PERSONAL trainer is in the running for a top national award.

Mum-of-one Katie Bulmer was picked from scores of hopefuls to make it into the finals of the International Fitness Showcase.

The 25-year-old, from Ashbrooke, Sunderland, runs a host of fitness websites and holds sessions across the North East.

On Saturday, she will discover if she has won the coveted UK Personal Trainer of the Year honour at a ceremony at the Winter Gardens, in Blackpool.

“I didn’t expect to get this far, but it’s amazing,” she said. “I’m up against people from right across the country.

“I’m really proud to make it into the finals.”

Katie, who is mum to 18-month-old Heidi, said she was nominated for the competition by clients and fellow trainers.

“It’s a nice feeling that people think you’re worthy of such an award,” she said. “It was a great feeling to find out I was in the final.

“I managed to get through two stages to reach the final.

“I was up against some really tough competition.”

The International Fitness Showcase is billed as the “ultimate fitness experience” for instructors and enthusiasts, providing three days of dance, aerobics, conditioning, lectures, workshops, mind-body sessions and trade show.

“The sessions have gone from strength-to-strength since I set them up,” added Katie. “The Little Black Dress Club, which helps women regain their figures, is proving really popular.

“Not only have I developed it in Sunderland, but it has been franchised to 15 cities across the country, from Lanarkshire to Portsmouth.

“I also try to make my groups just the right size, not too big, like boot camps, and not too small, like one-to-one sessions.

“They are also proving really popular with my clients.”
