THE workforce at Wearside’s Nissan plant was honoured with an award praising the firm’s “bold endeavour” to benefit and raise the profile of the North East.
The Northumbrian Association gave the company its Hotspur Award for its achievements and commitment in Sunderland.
John Mowbray, of Northumbrian Water, said: “Nissan is a bright spot for people in the North East to look to.
“It’s about people making things and exporting things, and the more we can get of that the better.”
Ian Black, plant production manager at Nissan, said: “This caps off a great year. Nissan has had many accolades, but this one is particularly meaningful because it is from the area.”
Mr Black said the award was testament to the workers at Nissan, who were behind its success.
