A SUNDERLAND restaurant has been drafted in to help turn disaster chefs into kitchen wizards.
D’Acqua in John Street has been chosen to appear in a new CBeebies show in which children enlist the help of qualified chefs to transform their parents’ culinary skills.
Filming will take place this month for the show, which has the working title Disaster Chefs, with a view to screening the series later in the year.
D’Acqua was chosen for a Wearside edition of the show after producers spotted it online. “It’s a brand new show,” said D’Acqua owner Jimmy Shadforth. “The idea is that parents who can’t cook are taught how to in their own kitchen, then they are given the chance to put those new skills to the test in a professional kitchen.
“That food is then judged by a celebrity chef and they’ve asked me to judge as well.”
A film crew will take over the kitchen for a day as the gastronomically-challenged parents are put through their paces. It’s a great opportunity to raise the profile of the restaurant and it sounds like a really fun show,” said Jimmy. “I think the parent being filmed for this episode must be from Sunderland which is why they wanted a Sunderland restaurant.”
D’Acqua, which serves English, French and Italian-inspired cuisine, first opened its doors in 2008 in the former Sunderland and South Shields Water Company building.
