Spooky Saturday at Springwell’s Bowes Railway Museum

Have your say

THRILL-SEEKERS can search for ghouls at a museum this month.

Bowes Railway Museum, in Springwell Road, Springwell, is hosting a ghost hunt.

Created in 1826 by George Stephenson as a colliery railway, Bowes Railway transported coal from nearby pits.

After 24 years it was taken over by the Bowes family and is now the only preserved rope-hauled railway in the world.

Apparitions of colliery workers in and around the large old buildings and trains have been said to leave visitors running and screaming.

Organisers also say that strange smells, noises and items moved on their own makes an eerie place after dark.

The hunt takes place from 9pm on Saturday, November 26, until 3am.

The cost of a ticket for the event is £25 per person.
