PLANS are in place to ensure concert-goers enjoy their favourite acts in a safe environment this summer.

More than 150,000 fans will see rock legends Bon Jovi kick off a spectacular summer of music at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, June 13, before Barbadian beauty Rihanna takes to the stage on Thursday, June 20.

Two days later, JLS, The Wanted and Amelia Lily will be among those performing in the North East Live pop extravaganza.

Sunderland Stadium of Light special event safety advisory group will be responsible for making the concerts pass without incident.

The group, made up of from Sunderland AFC, Sunderland City Council, the emergency services and public transport companies, will follow a plan built up based on experiences of previous large events at the ground.

Chairman of the group, Ken Scott, said: “It’s a mammoth operation for everyone involved, and the planning and preparation begins months in advance.

“Preparing the city to safely host so many people involves painstaking attention to detail. This includes things which might not normally be an issue.”
