Countdown on for Wimbledon 2018 - see who you know in these tennis memories

If football is not your choice of sport and you are not tuned in to watching 22 men competing in the World Cup, what about the game of tennis?

Yes, the year has flown by and “Wimbledon fever” is just around the corner.

Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and is also widely regarded as the most distinguished.

It is the only major competition still played on grass.

Tennis, as you know, can be enjoyed by both young and old, male and female, and played at all levels – from socially to competitively, indoor and outdoor all year round.

Why not pour yourself a glass of lemonade, put your tennis racket down and look through our selection of archived photographs featuring local and budding tennis players.

Do you recognise anyone in the line-up for St Anthony’s under-13 team or maybe one of the players taking part in the 1948 Burnmoor Tennis Tournament?

How many of you used to arrange to meet a friend or two at the local park for a game of tennis?
