CAMERAS are set to roll on a new drama as filming begins.
Lark Rise to Candleford and Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire and Trial and Retribution’s David Hayman are among the cast to appear in The Paradise, written by Bill Gallagher.
The BBC period drama will be filmed at locations across the North East, with street scenes to be staged in a set built on the Lambton Estate.
The story is based on the French novel by Emile Zola, but relocated to a British setting and follows the story of a love affair set against the backdrop of the opening of the first department store in the north of England.
The BBC has said it is the biggest drama it has made in the region so far, with the eight episodes to be screened on BBC1.
