BURLESQUE sensation Katrina Darling is making waves in the pages of this month’s Playboy magazine.

The 21-year-old from Fulwell, who is Kate Middleton’s second cousin, is believed to have been paid a six-figure sum for her appearance which sees her gracing the front page in black underwear and stockings.

Former Monkwearmouth School pupil Katrina also appears fully naked in an eight-page editorial under the headline “God Save the Queen.”

The article has sparked controversy with critics dubbing it an “embarrassment to the Royal Family.”

Speaking in Playboy in defence of her burlesque show, entitled God Save the Queen, which she has performed in international cabaret clubs, Katrina says the show is not political.

“Burlesque is a platform for me to explore these kind of things,” she said.

“It plays on the whole thing in a British satirical way, just poking fun.”

Katrina was approached by the US adult magazine, which describe her as “Britain’s New Burlesque Queen,” after they heard of her royal connections.

She appears in the September edition, which is now on sale in America and Britain priced £4.75.

Katrina only discovered her connection to one of the world’s most famous women when a national newspaper began digging into Kate’s family tree at the time of the royal engagement.

They discovered that Katrina’s grandma, Jane Darling, was sister to Kate’s great-grandfather Thomas Harrison.

Talking to Playboy, Katrina, who has never met the Duchess of Cambridge, says: “At first I thought it was hilarious. It’s not every day something like that happens.”

She added: “It got completely out of control, however. It brought a lot of scary things to my doorstep.”

Katrina began her foray into burlesque with Sunderland troupe the Coquette Collective, before she began appearing on stages around the world.
