A MODEL student has been crowned the Face of the North East 2012.

Megan Crombie, who has just joined East Durham College to study a foundation degree in sports and exercise development, took the beauty title in a grand final.

It was held at Ramside Hall, in Durham.

She beat 269 others to the top spot and also received the award for best personality at the event.

She has admitted she was completely shocked to take both awards on the night.

The student said: “I was absolutely over the moon and completely overwhelmed.

“I didn’t think in the slightest I would win.

“I was shocked just to be placed in the top eight and then I got awarded Miss Personality which was a massive surprise.”

Pretty Megan today described the magic moment when she won.

“When they announced my name as the winner I was miles away, expecting someone else to win.

“Then next thing I knew loads of people were screaming and shouting.

“It then clicked that I had won and I just burst into tears.”

Megan’s win is just the start of her journey.

Now she gets set for Disneyland Paris in November, where she will represent the North East in the Face of Europe competition.

The 18-year-old, from Blackhall, County Durham, added: “Winning Face of the North East means I have qualified to represent the region in Face of Europe in November, which I am extremely proud to be doing.

“Firstly I travel to Folkestone on November 18, meeting up with all the finalists from around Europe.

“Then I travel on to Disneyland for the grand final on November 22.”
