Jade Bambrough is hoping to fly the flag for Great Britain on the international stage.
The 23-year-old from Thorney Close has made it through to the finals of Miss Universe GB, the pageant from which the country’s candidate for Miss Universe is chosen.
Jade is no stranger to the catwalk, having scooped the title of Top Model of Sunderland, but Miss Universe GB would be her biggest crown to date.
She said: “Since I was a young girl I’ve always been in awe of Miss Universe and didn’t realise you could just apply yourself for the competition. Winning Top Model of Sunderland gave me the confidence to apply and push for my dream and I was delighted when I got the call to say I’d made it through to the final.
“To have been given the opportunity to do that is an honour and a privilege.”
Jade, who juggles modelling with working as an insurance representative at Fusion Call Centre, will be competing against more than 40 women from across the country at the finals, which will be held in Newport, South Wales, on July 15, in rounds including swimwear and evening wear.
Speaking about appearing in pageants, Jade said: “I get a mixed reaction from people when they hear about it, but it’s mostly positive. I don’t think people realise how much hard work and preparation goes into the pageants.
“It’s also a great platform to do fundraising work and for this year’s competition we’ll be raising funds for charities including children’s charity Strongbones and Sheroes Hangout, which supports victims of acid attacks.
“In the future, I hope to pursue my modelling career further and become an ambassador for causes close to my heart; one of which being Dementia UK. I would love to make an impact towards the research of finding a cure for the illness which is so devastating for so many, with irreversible effects.”
