5. Mexico 70, High Street West

6. Koji, corner of Church Lane
A sister restaurant to Mexico 70, Koji is also super close to the Empire and is a cracking spot for ramen, noodles, bao buns and fried chicken. Its open Wednesday to Friday from 4pm, Saturday 12pm-3pm and 4pm to late and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm. | Sunderland Echo
7. The Botanist, Keel Square
Head to the new Botanist in Keel Square for pre-theatre hanging kebabs, chicken katsu curry, vegan bang bang noodle salad, prawn linguine, roasted seabass and more. It's open seven days a week. | Sunderland Echo

For a pre-theatre pie and pint, head to the new Keel Tavern in Keel Square. Open daily for lunch onwards, it's got a menu of hearty pub classics, such as bangers and mash, fish and chips and a whole range of pies. | Echo
