Chelsea’s anniversary celebration

Have your say

NEXT week, the 100th Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show opens in London and it’s my first visit.

I’ll be looking out for the new and unusual on press day and will report back with a round-up in my May 31 column.

In particular, I want to find new varieties of plants that are more weather resistant to the persistent winds and low temperatures we seem to endure constantly here in the North East.

Also, anything that makes growing your own fruit and veg for beginners and encouraging wildlife, especially bees, back into the garden, would be most welcome.

While I’m in London, I’m going to take the opportunity to visit Kew Gardens and the Chelsea Physic Garden – there’s only me to please, so there’s no one else to bore with plants!
