FOUR future chefs are all set to test their kitchen skills at the first Delicious North East Food and Drink Festival.
Danny Cook, 17, Megan Lumsden, 17, Gavin Dobbs, 18, and David Coates, 17, will be working behind the scenes of the festival’s theatre kitchen.
The four teenagers are all first-year diploma students at Sunderland College.
Michelin-star chefs Kenny Atkinson and Dave Coulson will be cooking up a storm along with CBBC’s Stefan Gates and the four keen beans say they can’t wait to help them.
Danny Cook said: “It’s a really good opportunity. None of us have been to anything like this before.”
Catering lecturer Rob Stewart said: “The students we’ve selected have done really well this year and now they have a chance to get some invaluable experience.
“They have also been invited to do some work experience for the three pop-up restaurants at the event – Liberty Brown, Sachins and Amore – so the future is looking very bright for them.”
As well as helping behind the scenes, the students will also man a stall selling their own produce.
Their goods will include tomato chutney, piccalilli, chilli jam, lemon and lime curd and red onion and ginger marmalade.
The Delicious North East Food and Drink Festival is on the weekend of July 14 and 15, at Nissan’s base on Wearside.
